Genital herpes is one of the commonest sexually transmitted infections worldwide. It is caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) or type 2 (HSV-2).Most people who have genital herpes have no symptoms and people can get herpes from a sex partner who does not have a visible sore or who may not know he or she is infected.Genital herpes may cause painful genital ulcers that can be severe and persistent in persons with suppressed immune systems, such as HIV-infected persons and makes it easier to transmit and acquire HIV infection sexually. Herpes is not curable, but it is a manageable condition. Neonatal herpes is one of the most serious complications of genital herpes and congenital herpes can be fatal. HSV 1&2 ELITe MGB® Kit is a qualitative PCR assay the detection and differentiation of Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2 (HSV1 and HSV2) DNA in cutaneous or mucocutaneous lesion swab specimens from patients with signs and symptoms of HSV1 or HSV2 infection. The assay is CE-IVD validated in combination with ELITe InGenius® , a fully automated sample-to-result solution.
